“A Different Kind of Spring…”
Cornerstone Festival has posted a new note on their facebook page. For the full letter, read it here. The following is an except:
Still, like many of you, we’re working through our own process of grieving the festival’s end—individually, as families, as a community, and a church. Along the way, our spirits have been buoyed by memories of those Cornerstone years – making us grateful for of friendships, spiritual, and formation.
… Part of what made Cornerstone what it was had to do with a shared sense of the pilgrim nature of our calling. As ever, C. S. Lewis phrases it memorably: “Our Father refreshes us on the journey with some pleasant inns, but will not encourage us to mistake them for home.” From the start, Cornerstone was bigger than a festival, just as it was bigger than the magazine that birthed the festival. We’re confident that the same out-of-the-box vision and energies and faith that created and sustained the fest will lead us all in new directions and expressions of that spirit, into a rich harvest that we’ll all continue to cultivate.
What’s next? Audiofeed Festival (UPDATE)
Occupy Cornerstone has shared information about Audiofeed Music Festival, which is being run by Cornerstone-ers, and is taking place this summer over July 4th weekend in the Champaign/Urbana, IL area (150 miles east of Bushnell). Some Cornerstone/JPUSA bands have already confirmed, and the Arkansas Stage will be joining as well.
Here is a statement from their website (emphasis mine):
If you’re exploring thias site, you’re probably one of “us”. Someone profoundly moved by music, and deeply attached to the sense of community that springs up around creative venues. Music has done much to shape my life. For me, music has challenged my preconceptions, made me stop and reconsider things I thought I knew, and has led me to accept challenges I thought I could not. My experiences at the Cornerstone Festival are among my most treasured memories. When Cornerstone announced that 2012 would be the end of their era, I truly mourned the loss of that place, that music, that community.
For others, it was other festivals, other events. The annual hog roast and semi-private Screaming Hog Festival at Mama Linda’s farm near the Cornerstone grounds, Icthus, or any number of other places and gatherings. One thing I knew, and know. I NEED that community and gathering. My wife gave me a much needed kick in the pants and told me to build that community in small ways every day. We set about doing that, with no concept of starting a new festival. Then, “out of the blue”, I was contacted by three different individuals in one afternoon, all asking me if I had an interest in gathering a group to start a festival. And so it began…Plans include camping, multiple stages, and speakers. Tickets are currently $35. Check out their website at audiofeedfestival.com
Just an update on this… If you haven’t checked out Audiofeed yet, I recommend you do!
I think you’ll recognize some of these confirmed bands: Maylene and the Sons of Disaster, 6’10” (acoustic Flatfoot 56), The Soil and the Sun, Denison Witmer, Homeless Gospel Choir, Grave Robber, Leper, The Burial, The Skies Revolt, Sean Michel, ilia, The Scurvies, Spoken Nerd, Ravenhill, Exegesis, Keyoung, A Hill to Die Upon, Noah James, Glenn Kaiser Band, The Choir, to name a few.
Also joining is speaker Preston Sprinkle, who wrote “Erasing Hell” with Francis Chan, and The Asylum.
Many more bands and speakers are yet to be announced.

Cornerstone Farm has sold

Cornerstone Festival just posted on their official facebook that the sale of the farm has closed.
I’m reminded of a post we reblogged a couple months ago…
“Someday the Cornerstone grounds will be sold off and turned into farm land - or worse, developed - and the people there won’t have any connection to the significance that plot of land had in so many lives.
That future hurts my heart.” - stewbottalborg
Aaaaaand today would have begun the 10-week countdown.
It’s really not happening, guys.

So… does anyone have any plans for the summer yet? Any other festivals that look promising? With Ichthus and Purple Door gone now, we’re not left with much in the midwest as far as major Christian festivals with a decent selection of alternative music.
If you were a fan of the Imaginarium, those guys are trying to host their own event in Indianapolis this summer. You can learn more about that on their facebook event page here.
What will you be doing?

Tomorrow would have begun the 100 Days countdown…
… if Cornerstone Festival would have gone on as normal.
